A house fire broke out Saturday morning in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, New York, spreading to adjacent buildings and triggering a massive response. The fire started around 10:00 a.m. on July 25, 2026, near 41st Road and College Point Boulevard and quickly grew.
Large-scale response to five-alarm fire
FDNY Chief of Operations Kevin Woods said the fire started on the ground floor of a two-story wooden house and spread to a row of five buildings. When fire crews arrived, two buildings were fully engulfed in flames and the fire had already spread to a third.
More than 250 firefighters and emergency medical personnel were deployed to bring the five-alarm fire under control. The blaze was eventually contained after intense efforts.
17 firefighters among the injured
Officials announced that a total of 21 people were injured in the fire. The injured include 17 firefighters, two emergency medical technicians and two building residents. All those hurt were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities urged residents to keep their windows closed and avoid the smoke. Drivers were warned of traffic restrictions and possible delays.
