A security drill in the Seine River in Paris led to the discovery of human remains on the riverbed. Le Parisien reported that the bones were noticed on August 2.
The incident took place near the Port de Bourdonnais in Paris's 7th arrondissement. Security forces detected the bones and notified the authorities.
Diver teams arriving at the scene recovered numerous damaged bones, including a lower jaw with teeth still intact. Following a preliminary examination of the remains, the Paris Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
The incident also brought to mind another case in the Seine River. In August 2025, the bodies of four men were found in the river.
