A federal judge in Tennessee dismissed human trafficking charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Judge Waverly Crenshaw stated that the investigation was initiated to justify the government's decision to deport Garcia to El Salvador. Garcia was stopped in Tennessee in 2022 for speeding, and there were nine passengers in the vehicle. The police evaluated the matter on suspicion of trafficking but only issued a warning to Garcia. The investigation was reopened after Garcia won the lawsuit against the deportation order. Judge Crenshaw expressed that the Trump administration started this investigation to accuse Garcia and that it was a retaliation. Garcia is a person prohibited from being deported to El Salvador and lives under legal supervision in the U.S. His lawyer said his client was a victim of political retaliation. The Department of Justice announced it will appeal the decision.
