FIFA President Gianni Infantino apologized for mistakes made during the communication and consultation process surrounding the FIFA Forward Enterprise project.
Speaking at a FIFA Council meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, Infantino said the proposal to involve private investors in the World Cup was not a final decision. Infantino said, "First of all, I apologize for our mistakes in the communication and consultation process that led to certain consequences."

Infantino said the aim of the FIFA Forward Enterprise project was to enable FIFA to invest more in member federations without relying solely on its existing resources.
Criticism of FIFA leadership
Debbie Hewitt, chair of the Football Association of England, said many questions remained unanswered at the FIFA Council meeting. Hewitt said Infantino needed to answer those questions.

Hewitt argued that Infantino would not deserve to remain FIFA president if the questions were left unanswered.
The proposal Infantino brought forward in July drew a backlash from several confederations, league administrators and prominent figures in football, particularly UEFA. These groups called on FIFA's leadership to resign.
