Rising tensions in the Middle East and the possibility of Iran damaging U.S. targets in Europe have led Greece to consider a new deployment option for its Patriot air-defense missile battery.
The possibility of moving the battery, deployed on Karpathos Island in March, to Souda Military Base on Crete is under consideration.
The decision is linked to the threat assessment
The Patriot system is planned to be moved from Karpathos to Souda if it is determined that Souda Military Base faces a significant threat.
Moving the battery to Crete is intended to provide more comprehensive protection for the military bases on the island and contribute to the air-defense capacity of the southeastern Aegean. The system was deployed on Karpathos Island in March, citing developments in Iran and the Middle East as the reason.
