Google has been fined €403 million by Ireland’s Data Protection Commission over the way it processed users’ location data.
The investigation, launched following complaints from European organizations that protect consumer rights, examined the period from May 25, 2018, to February 4, 2020.
The commission concluded that Google had failed to demonstrate that it met the requirements of lawfulness, fairness and transparency when processing location data. Under the decision, the company was ordered to bring its data-processing practices into compliance with European Union legislation within six months.
