Lewis Hamilton delivered a strong message to his rivals, emphasizing that his seven Formula 1 world championships are no coincidence. The British driver, competing for his eighth title with Ferrari, stressed that he still knows what it takes to reach the top.
Hamilton is currently tied with Michael Schumacher for seven world championships in his career. However, he has surpassed Schumacher’s 91 Grand Prix wins, reaching 105 victories.
This season, Hamilton is second in the drivers' standings, trailing leader Kimi Antonelli by 66 points after six race weekends. After some performance fluctuations early in the season, he is said to have found a better rhythm with the new aerodynamic car.
As Hamilton approaches the Barcelona race aiming for his third consecutive podium, he recently finished second behind Antonelli in the Canada and Monaco stages. These results indicate that he has regained his race pace.
The British driver also responded directly to his critics. Ignoring calls for retirement, Hamilton made it clear that he intends to continue racing.
He said he is in a better physical and mental state, working with a much more positive approach compared to last year. Additionally, he mentioned racing without injury and competing with a car that suits his driving style as advantages.
Hamilton stated that his goals align with Ferrari’s and believes the team is moving in the right direction. He emphasized that everyone must work together with the same focus and strength to achieve success.
He expressed that he is focused on continuously pushing the team forward and working with full commitment. According to him, reaching the big goal will take time, but if the team stays on the same path, they could reach a "magical" point.
Meanwhile, 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve argued that it does not seem easy for Hamilton to establish a direct advantage over Mercedes with Ferrari this season. Villeneuve acknowledged Hamilton’s strong recent performances but said that in terms of straight-line speed, it is not enough against Mercedes.
Villeneuve also evaluated Hamilton’s current form based on rivalries and potential issues among competitors. Nevertheless, he added that Hamilton has found a good rhythm, appearing confident and aggressive at the moment.
