Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced that they will launch a state-level investigation into Dr. Anthony Fauci. Murrill stated that they took this step after Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment right 111 times while testifying before the Senate.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Murrill emphasized that Fauci could be investigated under state law despite former President Joe Biden's federal pardon. "Fauci lied," Murrill said, adding, "Louisiana and Missouri had previously called Fauci to testify. At that time, he claimed he did not remember many important details; now his own contemporaneous records are coming to light."
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier also announced on Thursday that an inquiry into Fauci had been launched. Uthmeier said that "all possible violations of Florida law" would be investigated.
Senator Tommy Tuberville, who is running for Alabama governor, stated that the federal pardon only applies to "crimes against the United States" and would not protect Fauci from state-level charges. "Anthony Fauci is responsible for the deaths of millions of Americans and tens of thousands of Alabamians. Joe Biden's signature-machine pardon does not apply to state crimes," Tuberville said. He added that if elected governor, he would explore ways to bring state charges against Fauci and encourage Alabamians to file compensation lawsuits.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry also expressed support for the investigation in a social media post, saying, "As a former attorney general who was one of those who questioned Fauci, I am pleased that Louisiana is joining Alabama and Florida."
Fox News Digital requested comment from Fauci's attorney on the matter but has not yet received a response.
