Madonna has unveiled an ambitious short film that brings together the first six tracks from her highly anticipated Confessions II album. Running about 13 minutes, the production captures the singer’s stage aesthetics and the album’s energy in a single visual narrative.
The film features striking scenes where women shoot lasers from their sexual organs, unconventional editing elements, and Madonna’s choreography-focused performance. It includes powerful segments presenting the artist as a figure who defies the passage of time while maintaining her unique style.
Premiere at Tribeca
The film was directed by David Toro and Solomon Chase, with Toro known by the name TORSO. It premiered on Friday, June 4, at the Tribeca Film Festival, where Madonna spoke about the project.
Madonna revealed that she worked on the film for about six months, with the process taking place in New York, Los Angeles, and London. She also noted that she was simultaneously working on the Confessions II album during the film’s production.
What did Madonna say?
During the Q&A session at Tribeca, Madonna explained the film’s significance to her. She expressed her love for cinema and said the film has inspired much of her life. She also mentioned that the word "video" felt too cheap to describe it.
Referring to MTV’s earlier era, Madonna noted that videos had a different meaning back then. This conveyed that the project was designed not just as a promotional piece but as a cinematic form of expression.
Songs and Guests
The short film’s soundtrack includes previously released tracks like "I Feel So Free" and the duet with Sabrina Carpenter, "Bring Your Love", along with new songs. The list features "Good for the Soul", "One Step Away", "Danceteria", and "Read My Lips".
The film also features brief appearances by Sabrina Carpenter, Odessa A’zion, Benedict Cumberbatch, Honey Dijon, Debi Mazar, Julia Garner, Richard E. Grant, Kate Moss, and Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon. This cast strengthens the film’s glamorous structure intertwined with pop culture.
Album Release on July 3
Confessions II is positioned as the follow-up to Madonna’s acclaimed 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor. The album is scheduled for release on July 3.
The short film has already become one of the most striking moves ahead of the album. Madonna announces her new era with a visually bold narrative, reaffirming her place on the pop stage.
