Michel criticized the European Commission’s response to the trade deal imposed by Donald Trump, saying it was unfortunate that Europe had shown weakness during the process.
Speaking to RTL, Michel argued that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, with whom he had previously served, was not in a position to cope with the challenges Europe faced.
Michel said the Commission bore a great deal of responsibility in the process and had missed its objective.
Michel said von der Leyen devoted too much energy to superficial communication and stressed that his assessment was not based on personal hostility. He also said this view was widespread.
