Pieces of a Viking-era silver hoard were found during foundation excavation for a house terrace in Denmark’s Rebild Municipality, in the north of the country.
The find consists of more than 700 pieces and weighs 18.5 kilograms in total. In addition to silver ingots, the hoard contains jewelry, coins and hammers.
The hoard weighs approximately three times as much as the last silver hoard previously found in Denmark.

Lars Christian Norbah, director of the North Jutland Museum, said the finds were highly significant both for their weight and their historical value.
Archaeologists will conduct research in the area to determine the origin of the silver artifacts. The Danish National Museum will determine the monetary value of the finds.
