Elon Musk has endorsed President Donald Trump’s call for Ukraine to replace President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “I agree, time for Ukraine to get a new leader,” Musk wrote on X on Sunday.
Musk was responding to remarks Trump made on Saturday on the White House South Lawn, where he said Zelenskyy “could have settled this war many times” and suggested Ukrainians “get a new leader who can make a deal.” “And I think it’s time for Ukraine to get a new president,” Trump said.
Russian state news agency TASS also reported that Musk said Zelenskyy had “gone too far,” reacting to Trump’s complaint that Kyiv ignored repeated U.S. requests to stop striking Russian oil refineries.

Diesel, refineries and an election Ukraine cannot hold
The exchange follows Trump’s announcement on Friday of a deal with Vladimir Putin to buy Russian diesel, which Zelenskyy called “not fair and not honest.” Trump has accused Ukraine of driving up global diesel prices and hurting American farmers with its attacks on Russian refineries.
Zelenskyy’s five-year term formally expired in May 2024, but Ukraine’s constitution bars elections while martial law is in force. Musk has pressed the issue before, writing “Hold an election” on X in 2025. Kyiv has not responded to the latest calls.
