Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu raised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statements against Israel during a phone call with US President Donald Trump, highlighting the gravity of the rhetoric.
According to a statement from Netanyahu's office, during the Thursday evening call the Israeli Prime Minister stressed the significance of the 'hostile' statements made by Erdoğan and his allies against Israel's existence. Netanyahu also raised the need to establish security zones along Israel's borders.
The two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing cooperation in various fields during the call.
Erdoğan has recently been frequently criticizing Israel's Middle East policies. Last Tuesday, he dismissed the claim that the sale of Israeli F-35 jets to Turkey would upset the regional balance, calling it 'disinformation'.
US Military Activity in the Gulf and the Iran Scenario
Netanyahu's office announced that President Trump briefed Israel on the US military activity in the Gulf during the call. The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, citing a source, reported that Israel is waiting for a 'green light' from the US President to join strikes on Iran.
The US has been carrying out intermittent strikes on Iran over the past two days. Washington justifies these attacks as retaliation for Tehran targeting ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking at an airbase near Beersheba on Thursday, Netanyahu said the war against Iran 'is not over yet' and that new challenges have emerged. He said Israel is preparing for all scenarios.
Meanwhile, Iran announced that it struck US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain for the second consecutive day. The future of US-Iran negotiations remains uncertain.
