The Portuguese Football Federation has imposed a precautionary measure against captain Cristiano Ronaldo for leaving the Nations League camp without permission. The 41-year-old star has been temporarily suspended from the national team until the disciplinary investigation is completed; the final sanction has not yet been determined.
The federation unit responsible for amateur and non-professional categories launched disciplinary proceedings on October 9 to examine the circumstances of the incident and classified the case for urgent handling. Following the automatic precautionary measure applied until the investigation was opened, a new precautionary suspension was imposed on Ronaldo. Details will remain confidential throughout the proceedings.
Dispute over playing time with Jorge Jesus
Ronaldo left the camp in Copenhagen before Portugal's match against Denmark. The reason for his departure was a dispute over playing time with head coach Jorge Jesus. According to Ronaldo's account, Jesus had agreed that he would not play in the matches against Norway and Denmark in order to preserve his physical condition, but later told him he would play 30 minutes against Norway. Ronaldo said he warmed up throughout the second half but was not brought on, arguing that the coach had failed to keep his word.

Portugal won all three matches during the international break, while Gonçalo Ramos, who replaced Ronaldo in the lineup, scored three goals.
Ronaldo apologized to his teammates and supporters, acknowledged that he should not have left the camp and said he was prepared to accept the federation's sanction. The case was referred to the federation's Disciplinary Investigation Commission.
