The South Africa Women's Cricket Team is preparing for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, which will be held in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5. Captain Laura Wolvaardt stated that their chances of success have increased with the addition of experienced players to the team. Especially the return of fast bowler Shabnim Ismail and all-rounder Dané van Niekerk has added significant strength to the team. Ismail had retired from international cricket after the 2023 World Cup final. Van Niekerk returned to the team last year after 2021 and played against Ireland and India. Wolvaardt said that the game knowledge and composure of these players will provide an advantage to the team. She also emphasized that the energy of young players Kayla Reyneke and Karabo Meso balances well with experience. The team prepared for the tournament with warm-up matches against Australia and a training camp. Wolvaardt noted that Australia is a strong opponent and teams like India and Pakistan in the group could also pose challenges. South Africa will start the tournament in the same group as Australia, Pakistan, India, the Netherlands, and Bangladesh. Wolvaardt said they will focus on each match one by one and will not get carried away by excessive expectations.
