Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia is studying the possibility of joint work with American partners in the Arctic, speaking Tuesday at the 8th summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Moscow.
"In the Arctic, we are actively working with many countries around the world and are interested in joint work," Putin said. "Until quite recently, European partners worked with us at our fields, and Chinese partners are working there. Now we are exploring the possibility of working together with American partners."
Putin said Russia's own liquefied natural gas technologies are already being used in the harsh conditions of the Arctic and that Moscow is open to sharing technology in the gas sector. Russia's Arctic gas projects include Yamal LNG on the Yamal Peninsula, which shipped its first cargo in 2017.
In the same speech, Putin accused Europe of hurting its own industry by abandoning Russian energy and breaking long-term contracts.
