American Action Network (AAN) President Chris Winkelman told Fox News Digital that the most important issue for working families is the cost of living, stating the group has invested $37 million to highlight how conservative policies provide real relief.
Expected to Play a Key Role in 2026 Midterms
The renewed spending further solidifies affordability as a key issue expected to play a decisive role in the 2026 midterm elections.
Although inflation has risen in recent months, AAN believes Republicans can continue to emphasize the affordability message as an effective way to reach voters and is highlighting the issue in many advertisements.
Focuses on Trump-Signed Bill
The group is advancing messaging on the "One Big Beautiful Bill" law since its passage last July.
One ad states, "The American comeback is here. President Trump and House Republicans are working for the American people, keeping their promises, and delivering the change they demanded. They're giving working families the biggest tax cut ever, cutting taxes on tips and overtime, and securing our border."
Democrats Also Target Affordability
Democrats are also targeting the affordability issue, pointing out that President Donald Trump's promises to lower daily costs face obstacles due to the effects of war in Iran and higher gasoline prices.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, inflation rose 4.2 percent in May. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has repeatedly drawn attention to this data point.
In a recent post on X, Jeffries said, "Inflation hit a 3-year high, gas prices are out of control, and life under Donald Trump has become unaffordable."
Republicans Criticize Democrats
Nevertheless, AAN and other Republican groups accuse Democrats of opposing the relief measures in the Big Beautiful Bill, stating that if successful, their opposition would likely lead to widespread tax increases.
National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Richard Hudson said, "House Democrats continue to prove they are out of touch with the concerns of everyday Americans. While Republicans focus on affordability, public safety, and securing the border, Democrats remain captive to the far-left agenda that is failing working families."
Winkelman indicated that even though $37 million has already been spent, their efforts are not over, saying, "Keep your eyes peeled - much more is coming this summer."
