A retired doctor and his son in New York are accused of running a family-operated 'pill mill' operation to illegally distribute prescription drugs. According to officials, during an approximately three-month period in 2022, the doctor wrote fake prescriptions for addictive drugs without examining patients. His son then connected these drugs with buyers and collected payments.
In an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), it was stated that the doctor illegally distributed controlled substances such as Percocet, Adderall, and Xanax. Doctor Richard Taubman and his son Eric Taubman surrendered after a lengthy joint investigation by the Nassau County Prosecutor's Office.
Authorities emphasized that such illegal activities endanger public health and constitute an abuse of medical authority. The Taubman family faces 23 separate charges and an allegation of forming a criminal organization. They declared their innocence in court. If convicted, they may face imprisonment.
