Russian Deputy Prime Minister Novak assessed efforts to secure energy infrastructure during the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.
Novak said protecting refineries and energy facilities was costly and that keeping the facilities out of operation caused major losses for companies. He said companies were therefore assuming additional security expenditures.
Protection measures at energy facilities increased
Novak said efforts to protect the facilities had been accelerated in recent months after an increase in attacks by Ukraine on Russian oil refineries.
Novak said Russian energy companies had adopted passive protection measures, were cooperating with the Russian Defense Ministry and had allocated resources for the necessary security steps.

Shorter repair time targeted for damaged facilities
Novak argued that the level of protection at refineries in Russia was better than at facilities in the United Arab Emirates, saying security measures in the country had been developed with more severe threat scenarios in mind.
Novak also said efforts had been accelerated to restore facilities damaged in the attacks to operation without waiting for the planned repair periods to elapse.
