The city of San Carlos, south of San Francisco, has officially recognized Oct. 29, 2026, as Turkish Republic Day, marking the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye. Ally Daily obtained a copy of the proclamation, which has not yet been published online.
In the document, Mayor Pranita Venkatesh "hereby recognizes October 29, 2026 as Turkish Republic Day in the City of San Carlos and honors the rich heritage, cultural traditions, and meaningful contributions of Turkish Americans to our community and nation."

"Founded under the leadership of Atatürk"
The proclamation, which bears the city's gold seal, recalls that the Republic was proclaimed on Oct. 29, 1923, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and notes that the day is commemorated by Turkish Americans across the United States and by communities around the world. It describes Turkish heritage as a rich tradition expressed through language, literature, music, art, cuisine and customs.
The document also highlights the role of Turkish Americans in education, entrepreneurship, science, technology, medicine, the arts and public service, and says Turkish American families and organizations support scholarships, youth programs, charitable initiatives and disaster relief while fostering friendship between the United States and Türkiye. The city, it says, honors the contributions of its residents of Turkish heritage.
Bay Area Turks are also preparing their own celebrations, including a Republic Day event in nearby Palo Alto on Oct. 25.
