JYP Entertainment confirmed Friday that South Korean K-pop group Stray Kids will not submit music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards. The agency did not provide a reason for the decision.

The announcement by Stray Kids came amid continued debate over the Recording Academy's Best Asian Pop Performance category, which will be awarded for the first time next year. The category will cover recordings that make meaningful use of one or more Asian languages, including K-pop, J-pop and C-pop.
The Recording Academy announced that it would introduce the new category despite criticism raised after consultations with members of the Asian music community. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said there were people opposed to the category, but that the academy had received strong support for keeping it.

BTS announced in July that it would not submit music for the 2027 Grammy Awards. The group said it hoped music would be listened to and loved as it is, without being divided by region or language.

Earlier this year, the eight members of Stray Kids were invited to become voting members of the Recording Academy. The 69th Grammy Awards will be held on February 7, 2027.
