The Swiss Foreign Ministry continues its work to host talks on the implementation of the agreement signed between the US and Iran. The ministry reported that it has created an environment ensuring confidentiality and reliability at Bürgenstock, where the talks were planned to take place.
Preparations for Talks Continue
A written statement from the Swiss Foreign Ministry said, "Switzerland continues to provide a confidential and reliable environment to contribute to the talks at Bürgenstock regarding the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Iran."
The statement noted that diplomats from various countries currently present there are striving to maintain dialogue, while adding that no further information about the talks or participants can be provided due to confidentiality.
Scheduled Meeting Canceled
The Swiss Foreign Ministry announced that a meeting planned between US and Iranian representatives at Bürgenstock yesterday was canceled. The ministry stated, "Meetings at Bürgenstock will not take place as planned today. Therefore, the meeting announced yesterday has been canceled."
This announcement came after the White House stated that preparations for technical talks with Iran are ongoing, but US Vice President J. D. Vance's visit to Switzerland has been postponed for now.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Bekai had also announced on June 20 that the planned Iran-US talks at Bürgenstock were "postponed to a later date."
Contacts by the Swiss Foreign Minister
Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis discussed the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding and recent developments in the region with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
US-Iran Agreement
On June 14, Iran and the US announced they had reached a 14-point agreement during negotiations mediated by Pakistan, which envisages the cessation of military activities and the resolution of issues between the parties through negotiations.
The agreement protocol, referred to as the "Islamabad Accord," was signed digitally by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump. The agreement includes items such as the cessation of military activities in Lebanon, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iran.
