Vincent Battiloro, 18, accused of causing the deaths of two teenage girls in New Jersey, downplayed the backlash over the murder allegations during a YouTube stream. Battiloro is on trial for allegedly intentionally running over Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas, both 17, with his vehicle as they rode electric bicycles in Cranford on September 29, 2025. The prosecutor's office stated that the suspect fled the scene on foot.
'Engagement' Defense on Stream
Just one day after the incident, Battiloro joined a YouTube gaming live stream and responded to viewers' comments about the killings with the following words: "The more you participate in the chat, the more engagement you give me, and I make money from YouTube. Just so you know. It's fine, it's fine. You're just giving me engagement, it's fine." Later, overwhelmed by the criticism, Battiloro said, "There's a lot of misinformation circulating online. But let me say this, I offer my sincerest condolences to the two girls who lost their lives in that tragic accident. This is an extremely unfortunate situation. And there's more that you haven't been told. But when the time comes, I will explain in more detail. Right now, I'm not authorized to discuss everything."
Dashcam Evidence
Police disclosed that Battiloro's own dashcam showed him getting into a Jeep Compass on September 29 and driving to Burnside Avenue near one of the victims' homes. The footage recorded that after parking, Battiloro saw both girls riding electric bicycles in the opposite direction, then made a U-turn to follow them, accelerated the Jeep toward the girls, and after the collision, got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
Transfer to Adult Court and Other Allegations
Battiloro, whose identity was withheld because he was a minor at the time of the crimes, had his case transferred to adult court on June 26 and is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Brent Bramnick, the attorney for the Niotis family, described the decision as "a welcome shred of justice." Bramnick also alleged that Battiloro orchestrated two swatting incidents at the family's Cranford home in September 2025. The family is questioning what kind of investigation the police conducted after these events.
