Andrew Giuliani, US President Donald Trump's special advisor responsible for the World Cup file, announced that the president's support would shift to England after the US was eliminated from the tournament. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Giuliani said Trump would now support England.
Giuliani stated that this preference was rooted in the deep historical and linguistic ties between the two countries. He noted that England winning the tournament held in the US would carry extraordinary symbolism, coinciding with the country's 250th Independence Day celebrations. 'If fate does not allow the US to win the cup on its 250th anniversary, it would be a great cinematic story for the English to come to America and take the gold medal amid our historic celebrations,' he said.
The advisor also highlighted England's 60-year wait for a championship. 'England has been suffering championship pain for exactly 60 years. Reaching the summit here would be a perfect end to their long agony,' he said.
Giuliani emphasized his belief that England could go far in the tournament and ranked them among the best remaining teams. He recalled that Trump closely follows England captain Harry Kane, and last week used the phrases 'great player and great man' for Kane on social media.
Noting that Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are England's most important assets, Giuliani said, 'Kane is England's top scorer. If they win the cup, he will be the main reason. Together with Bellingham, they have two top-level players.'
Touching on the golf connection between former English star Wayne Rooney and Trump, Giuliani said, 'A few years ago, I was in a group playing golf with President Trump, and Wayne Rooney was there too. The president knows football well, which he also owes to his relationship with his son Barron.'
Meanwhile, Harry Kane had described his experience of playing golf with Trump in Florida at the end of 2024 as 'surreal.' Kane said, 'When the president invites you somewhere, meeting him and playing golf was an extraordinary experience. He really plays golf very well, and I hope I can play at the same level when I reach his age.'
