Mexican security forces captured Alfonso Fernández Magallón, leader of the Los Reyes cartel, who had a $5 million US bounty on his head, in an operation. The detainee is also known by the aliases "Alfonso N" or "Poncho."
Mexican Security Minister Omar García Harfuch announced on social media that the cartel leader was arrested in a joint operation by army and security ministry teams. US authorities had offered a reward of up to $5 million for information on Alfonso Fernández Magallón.

Harfuch stated that immediately after the detention, cartel members blocked roads and set vehicles on fire in an attempt to prevent the transfer of prisoners.
According to Mexican media, Alfonso Fernández Magallón was involved in drug trafficking, car theft, and extortion. The newspaper Jornada also reported that Magallón carried out drone attacks against the Mexican army in 2025 and 2026.
The Los Reyes cartel is reported to be part of a Mexican criminal group called "Carteles Unidos," also known as "La Resistencia."
