US President Donald Trump announced he will retaliate against the European Union's (EU) hefty fine on Google. In a post on his social media account, Trump reacted harshly to the €890 million fine imposed by the EU on July 23.
Describing the fine imposed by the EU Commission on Google for violating the Digital Markets Act as 'illegal and extremely discriminatory,' Trump noted that with this fine, the company's total EU-originated fines have exceeded $18 billion.
Claiming that fines against major American companies reached high levels during former President Joe Biden's tenure, Trump said, 'The US is not a piggy bank for Europe, and we will not allow this.'

Trump announced that an investigation will be launched under Section 301 of the Trade Act against the EU's practices. 'The EU will pay a very heavy price for this illegal and extremely unethical practice that I have repeatedly warned them about,' Trump said, adding, 'These fines will be completely withdrawn, and we anticipate a significant tariff will be imposed as soon as possible.'
The EU Commission announced on July 23 that it had found Google in violation of the Digital Markets Act in two separate areas and imposed a total fine of €890 million on the company.
