Adam Telle immediately assumed the duties of acting secretary of the Army following a decision by U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a statement posted to his Truth Social account, Trump said that Telle had previously served as assistant secretary of the Army for Civil Works.
The new appointment came after Dan Driscoll resigned on Tuesday. Months of tensions had reportedly developed between Driscoll and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over the Army’s future direction and the removal of several senior officers.
White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly said after Driscoll’s resignation that the former secretary had been instrumental in advancing Trump’s agenda.
Kelly said Driscoll had led during historic military operations, prioritized readiness and operational capacity, and contributed to negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
