U.S. President Donald Trump argued that Ukraine’s targeting of oil refineries in Russia had driven up global energy prices and criticized the attacks.
In an interview with Newsmax’s "Finnerty" program from the White House on Thursday, Trump reacted to strikes on facilities producing diesel fuel. "I think it’s a disgrace. There are plenty of other targets that can be hit," he said.
Trump said diesel fuel was essential to the world, adding: "When you fire at refineries where diesel is produced, and we need it, and the world needs it, you’re not doing the world a good service."
Trump questioned Zelenskiy’s desire to negotiate
Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s leadership in the interview. He said Zelenskiy claimed to want a deal to end the war but argued that he did not genuinely want one. "Zelenskiy is not a good person for our deal," he said.

Trump described his view of Zelenskiy by saying, "I’m not a big fan of Zelenskiy." When asked about a two-month pause that would allow elections to be held in Ukraine, he replied, "I think there needs to be an election."
He assessed support for the government in Ukraine
As Russia’s attacks on residential buildings continued, Trump questioned whether Ukrainians were satisfied with the current administration. Trump said a Ukrainian woman blamed Zelenskiy for the country’s difficulties and military losses, and quoted her as saying, "Zelenskiy destroyed our country."

He defended Russia’s manpower advantage
Trump said Russia’s larger population gave Moscow a significant manpower advantage over Ukraine. He argued that Russia had the capacity to sustain heavy losses and said Ukraine lacked manpower on the same scale.
The U.S. president also acknowledged that Ukraine had received advanced U.S. military equipment, describing it as "the best equipment in the world."
