U.S. President Donald Trump said he might ask Türkiye to take part in the fight against the Houthis in Yemen, as Saudi Arabia and its coalition step up operations following a wave of Houthi attacks on Saudi airports.
Asked by a reporter at the White House whether he would ask Türkiye to join the effort in Yemen, Trump replied: “I might do it. He’s a great friend of mine, as you know, and I might do that.”
“I have a lot of respect for the president of Turkey. President Erdoğan, I think, would do as I ask.” — Donald Trump

Washington weighs its own role
Trump said last week, after a deadly Houthi strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, that the United States “may” join Saudi strikes on the Iran-backed group. Ankara has so far offered diplomatic backing: Erdoğan told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in a phone call on Tuesday that Türkiye condemns the Houthi attacks “in the strongest terms” and will stand by the kingdom, and Türkiye joined Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan in a joint statement condemning the attacks.
Türkiye has not announced any military involvement in Yemen.
