US President Donald Trump has ordered a new military operation against Iran. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal citing US officials, the military operation is planned to commence this weekend and continue for several days.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump expressed his intention to continue intensive military strikes. He argued that waging a strong campaign against Iran would weaken the country’s leadership and force Tehran to back down from its current positions.
Tensions Escalate Again
Military tensions between Washington and Tehran have escalated again following the collapse of the ceasefire declared on July 8. In recent weeks, US forces have carried out a series of strikes on Iranian military bases and facilities associated with drones and naval forces. Iran has responded by targeting US bases in the region and raising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
US and Israel Weigh Additional Options
Media reports indicate that the US and Israel are discussing additional steps to increase pressure on Iran. These steps include tightening sanctions, further isolating Iran’s economy through stricter inspections at land border crossings, targeting its energy infrastructure, and entering a new phase of air operations. Iran has reiterated its right to respond to any attack, while Israel has signaled that it is prepared to join the military operation if Washington requests it.
Naval Blockade Continues
US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on social media platform X that US naval forces are continuing to support the blockade against Iran in regional waters. CENTCOM reported that an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter was being readied for flight aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112). According to CENTCOM, as of July 31, US forces have diverted 30 commercial vessels, disabled two ships, and boarded two others to ensure full compliance. Military officials also noted that approximately 30 vessels carrying humanitarian aid were allowed to pass through the blockade.
