Russia has continued its air strikes on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in a social media statement that the attacks targeting five different districts of the capital caused damage to apartment buildings and other structures and sparked fires.
Klitschko stated that nine people were killed and more than 30 were wounded, including four children, in the attacks. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reacted by saying, 'It was a hellish night in Kyiv.' Sybiha said, 'Unable to achieve its goals on the battlefield, Russia is intensifying air strikes and terror against civilians. Ukraine urgently needs additional air and missile defense systems, as well as interceptor missiles.'
This was the second major attack on Kyiv this week. Earlier, on Thursday, nine civilians, including six members of the same family, were killed in a village near Kryvyi Rih in attacks that day. It was also reported that a cruise missile, believed to be Russian, had fallen in Poland.
According to military analysts, although Russia's advance has slowed this year, fierce fighting continues along the more than 1,200-kilometer front line.
