U.S. President Donald Trump opposed slowing progress in artificial intelligence on Sunday, calling for the United States to preserve its technological edge in competition with China.
Speaking after journalists asked whether stricter rules should be imposed on the sector or whether the pace of development should be reduced, Trump argued that the United States was ahead of China in artificial intelligence.
Trump said the country that achieves leadership in artificial intelligence would also move ahead in global leadership. He said preserving the United States' technological advantage was a priority.
Rejecting calls to limit the rapid development of artificial intelligence, Trump argued that some people were exaggerating hypothetical risks and problems that were not expected to materialize. At the same time, Trump acknowledged that protective limits could be established for technological systems.
