U.S. President Donald Trump said he had asked Qatar for a temporary solution for the U.S. presidential aircraft fleet. Speaking at a rally in Arizona on Wednesday, Trump said he had requested a Boeing 747 from Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for use as Air Force One.
Trump said the United States’ current presidential aircraft are approximately 35 years old. Saying that he needed an aircraft to use until the new planes are delivered, Trump said the Qatari leader offered to gift the aircraft to the United States instead of lending it.

Trump accepted Qatar’s offer
Trump said Sheikh Tamim had proposed that the United States own the aircraft rather than receive it only temporarily. Trump said the Qatari leader was his friend and had told him that he wanted to leave the aircraft to the United States.
The U.S. President said he accepted Qatar’s offer on behalf of the United States. Trump also argued that a gift offered to him should be accepted.
The aircraft will be used until the new presidential planes arrive
The Qatari Boeing 747 is planned to be used by the United States as a transitional aircraft until two new Boeing presidential planes are delivered.

The new presidential aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2028.
