US President Donald Trump stated that a deal to end the war with Iran will be signed on Sunday, and after the signing, the Strait of Hormuz will be "open to everyone."
In a post on social media, Trump also suggested that enriched uranium from Iran could later be extracted jointly with the US. He wrote that this process would take place "at the right time" and once the situation calms down.
Trump further expressed hope that the US and Iran will work together in the Middle East in the future. At the end of his message, he used a stern phrase implying a final option that could be used if Iran's demands are not met.
Cautious Statement from Iran on Timeline
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bekayi said in a statement reflected in state media that caution should be exercised regarding the timing of any agreement's signing.
Bekayi indicated that the signing is not expected tomorrow but did not completely rule out the possibility in the coming days. The Iranian side's message pointed to ongoing uncertainty about the timeline in contacts between Washington and Tehran.
Regional Contacts and Mixed Messages
Trump's post came hours after Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the US and Iran have reached the closest peace ground so far. Sharif mentioned that a final outcome could emerge within 24 hours and that technical-level talks would take place next week.
Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar also reported discussing the process with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. Dar said both sides acknowledged that negotiations have reached the final stage and the signing ceremony is planned for the following day.
According to Dar, the parties expressed hope that this development will contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region. However, a senior US official had said a day earlier that there was not 100% certainty the agreed text would be signed.
Statements from the parties indicate a lack of clarity on the timeline in the process. Different tones continue regarding the outcome of the deal and the next steps.
