Turkey's new military headquarters opens to US and allied defense ministers at NATO summit
National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler hosted US and allied defense ministers at the under-construction Ay Yıldız Joint Headquarters during the NATO summit in Washington.
National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler introduced Turkey's new military headquarters to international guests for the first time on the occasion of the 36th NATO Summit hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Washington. The reception held at the Ay Yıldız Joint Headquarters, which is under construction, was attended by the defense ministers of the US and other NATO countries.
Minister Güler greeted the guests at the door in the Yıldız section of the headquarters, accompanied by a military band. After a commemorative photo, Güler made a brief speech and explained that the campus was designed inspired by the crescent and star on the Turkish flag.
This campus, which we are in and which was designed inspired by the Crescent and Star on our flag, will now unite our entire defense and military command structure under one roof. This headquarters will become operational in the near future and will be one of the world's few large-scale headquarters. By bringing our General Staff and Force Commands under one roof, we aim to maximize our joint operational capability and accelerate bureaucratic processes to achieve maximum speed and efficiency.
Güler stated that the headquarters' security would be ensured with the highest level air and ground defense measures and modern technology-based systems within the framework of the Steel Dome strategy. He emphasized that the campus is equipped with smart and sustainable building technologies to provide uninterrupted communication and command-control capability in crisis and war scenarios.
Beyond being a modern headquarters, this place is a concrete symbol of Turkey's solid and determined stance in defense and security. I am confident that our new headquarters will be a place where work will be carried out for the defense and security of both our country and our Alliance.
The National Defense Minister expressed his satisfaction at hosting the defense ministers of the US and NATO allies at the headquarters' first event.
