Türkiye's Directorate of Communications held a panel titled "From Zero Waste to COP31: Türkiye's Climate Diplomacy" in Ankara on Tuesday and launched its new book, Climate Diplomacy. Environment Minister Murat Kurum, who serves as COP31 president, attended the event.
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said climate change is directly linked to global justice, international cooperation and security, beyond its environmental dimension. He said Türkiye continues its fight against climate change in line with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's goal of net-zero emissions by 2053, and that the Zero Waste movement led by first lady Emine Erdoğan has given the country a distinctive source of soft power in climate diplomacy.

Duran also stressed the importance of accurate communication and of countering disinformation for climate policies to succeed.
Türkiye will host COP31, the U.N. Climate Change Conference, in Antalya from Nov. 9 to 20. Duran said the goal is to speed up the conversion of international commitments into concrete results and to strengthen cooperation between countries.
