More than a week after deadly flash floods struck Nepal, rescuers reached two people inside the tunnel of the Trishuli 3A Hydroelectric Project.
One of those rescued, Sanjaya Shah, was flown to a hospital in Battar, northwest of the capital Kathmandu. Preparations were made to take Kabir Maharjan to Chhauni, a military hospital in Kathmandu.
At least 42 people are expected to be inside the tunnel
Search and rescue teams heard voices from inside the tunnel early Friday. The Energy Ministry said the ongoing efforts were expected to lead to the rescue of at least 42 people from the tunnel.
Floodwaters and landslides caused widespread destruction in Nepal’s Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Kavre districts, as well as in the Kathmandu Valley. The area along the Nepal-China border was also affected by the disaster.
