Allegations concerning Athens Ambassador Guilfoyle have become one of the cases before U.S. President Trump. Trump is considering whether to remove the ambassador, and a decision is expected soon.
Guilfoyle allegedly accepted expensive gifts and solicited money in exchange for access to officials in the U.S. administration. The U.S. Embassy in Athens, however, maintained that the ambassador complied with the U.S. State Department’s guidance on ethics rules.

Relations with Greek businesspeople and travel allegations
Allegations concerning a reviewed audio recording said that Guilfoyle spoke about her close relationships with Greek businesspeople while she was in Davos for the World Economic Forum in January 2026. She allegedly said these individuals covered the costs of her luxury trips around the world.
Guilfoyle allegedly traveled to Davos on a private jet with Alexandros Exarchou, CEO of the Greek construction company Aktor Group. It was also alleged that she traveled to Paris with Greek shipowner Nikolas Tsakos, who covered the cost of the luxury hotel where she stayed in the city.
Guilfoyle also allegedly sought help from a businessperson on the guest list to attend a dinner held in Davos for U.S. President Trump’s son, Eric Trump. She was said to have highlighted her close relationships with Greek businesspeople during this process.
Alleged request for a $100,000 debt payment
Guilfoyle allegedly contacted Eric Deters, who had donated to Trump’s election campaign, before the Senate hearing on her appointment as ambassador in July 2025.
According to the allegation, Guilfoyle asked Deters to pay a $100,000 debt on her American Express credit card. She allegedly said the transaction would not appear in the records if the money were transferred directly to the company.

Guilfoyle allegedly offered to resolve Deters’ tax and legal problems by using her connections within the Trump administration. Deters, in turn, allegedly promised to pay Guilfoyle up to $1 million if the problems were resolved.
Guilfoyle’s lawyer said that the ambassador denied the authenticity of the messages in question.
