The U.S. Senate confirmed Todd Blanche’s appointment as attorney general in a 50-49 vote. Blanche previously served as former U.S. President Donald Trump’s lawyer.
Speaking after the confirmation, Blanche said he was honored by Trump’s confidence in him. Saying he would take on responsibility for leading the Justice Department, Blanche thanked the Senate for working late to complete the confirmation process.
Blanche also expressed his gratitude for Justice Department employees’ efforts to uphold the rule of law and ensure the country’s security.
Trump announced on April 2 that he had dismissed Pam Bondi and appointed then-Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as acting attorney general.
