UAV operations were among the key areas covered in a joint military training program conducted by U.S. and Nigerian troops in Bauchi State.
The training in the northeastern Nigerian state aims to improve the army’s operational capabilities and combat readiness. The program was jointly developed by U.S. and Nigerian experts.
Practical training for around 10 soldiers
U.S. instructors provided practical training to around 10 soldiers from the Nigerian Air Force’s special operations regiment on operating unmanned aerial vehicles and evaluating data obtained from these systems for military operations.
In a statement, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) listed the program’s other areas as first aid in combat conditions, weapons handling, camouflage, water purification and quality control, explosive ordnance disposal, and small-unit tactics.
Cooperation between the two countries
AFRICOM said the joint program aimed to promote the sharing of military experience, develop the capabilities of the Nigerian army, and strengthen cooperation between the two countries’ troops.
The U.S. and Nigerian armed forces expect the training to strengthen operational coordination and bilateral military cooperation.
AFRICOM said in July that most of the U.S. troops deployed to Nigeria as part of a separate counterterrorism operation had withdrawn from the country. Intelligence sharing and security cooperation were continuing.
