A large forest fire that started yesterday evening in the Var region of southeastern France has destroyed about 2,000 hectares of land.
Local media report that more than 150 firefighters and dozens of vehicles have been deployed to the area to fight the flames. Efforts to contain the blaze continue, and so far 1,800 hectares have burned.
The Var region was also hit by a large fire in July, which damaged about 6,000 hectares.
France is experiencing one of its most severe wildfire seasons on record this year. Across the country, a total of 117,000 hectares have burned, and four firefighters have died while battling the blazes. In connection with fire-related crimes, 375 people have been taken into custody so far.
Although fires in the Gironde and Aude regions have been brought under control, 'high' wildfire risk warnings remain in effect across 36 areas of the country.
