Contact was lost around 2 a.m. local time with a vessel carrying 241 people from Surabaya to Banjarmasin in Indonesia. Search-and-rescue teams were dispatched to the vessel’s last estimated position off Java.
A vessel carrying 241 people on a route between Surabaya and Banjarmasin in Indonesia could not be reached after around 2 a.m. local time.
The vessel, traveling from Surabaya in East Java province to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan province, disappeared off Java. The vessel operator informed the authorities after receiving information that it had encountered bad weather.
Search-and-rescue teams dispatched
Teams were sent to the vessel’s last estimated position. All available resources were mobilized to locate those missing, while the search continued in cooperation with the relevant authorities.
