Robert Agee, the top executive of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, said American companies are awaiting the opportunity to resume operations in Russia.
Agee stated that Russia holds great potential and that this potential could help companies overcome some of the current challenges. He noted that certain products, particularly fertilizers, could be easily exported to the U.S. market.
Agee also said that some American technology and aerospace companies that previously operated in Russia are closely monitoring developments. He stated that these companies were forced to leave the market and are now seeking an opportunity to return.
Emphasis on dialogue with Washington
The AmCham executive argued that working in Russia was much more difficult during Joe Biden's tenure, but with the Donald Trump administration, they see a willingness to improve economic dialogue.
Agee said there are currently contacts through two different channels, cultural and commercial, and that the most important thing is for the parties to talk. He claimed there was no communication at all during the Biden era.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously said that the return of companies that left the Russian market would be welcomed if they had not behaved rudely or left a negative impression in the country. Putin also emphasized that the interests of the Russian business community would be taken into account in the return of foreign companies.
