US President Trump argued that both Moscow and Kyiv had committed violations in the energy ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump answered reporters' questions outside the White House before traveling to Ohio for an election rally. Asked whether the agreement was still in effect, he said the sides had reached an understanding and that the matter now needed to be resolved.

Describing the Russia-Ukraine war as "a complete disaster," Trump argued that both sides had violated the agreement when asked about Ukrainian President Zelenskyy's remarks that Russia had breached it.
Trump assesses Putin and Zelenskyy
Trump disagreed with the assessment that only Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the agreement while Zelenskyy did not. The US president said both leaders supported the agreement.

Trump argued that Putin wanted to reach an agreement more than Zelenskyy did and said Zelenskyy also needed to be brought to support an agreement. According to Trump, both leaders want to reach a deal but do not know how to achieve it.
Trump said Putin and Zelenskyy needed to reach an agreement. He said the diesel agreement the United States made with Russia was important not only for the US but also for the world, adding that he had made the agreement on behalf of all countries.
Zelenskyy had previously said that Russia violated the ceasefire that Trump announced had been reached between Russia and Ukraine to halt attacks on energy infrastructure.
