Apple’s market value closed above $5 trillion for the first time on Wednesday, Oct. 14, making the iPhone maker only the second company in history to finish a trading session above that level, after Nvidia.
Apple shares rose about 0.5% to a record close of $342.96, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $5.01 trillion.

Six intraday crossings before the first close
According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple had topped $5 trillion during trading six times before but had never held that level through the closing bell. The company first crossed the threshold intraday on July 28.
The gain came on a weak day for technology stocks, with Nvidia falling about 3.2% and Microsoft about 1.8%. Nvidia, which became the first company to close above $5 trillion in October 2025, remains the world’s most valuable company at about $5.3 trillion.
A milestone at the start of the Ternus era
The Journal said the milestone caps the Tim Cook era. It comes about six weeks after John Ternus succeeded Cook as Apple’s chief executive on Sept. 1.
