A Florida court issued a domestic violence protection order against writer Kerri Rawson, daughter of 'BTK' serial killer Dennis Rader. The order was granted at the request of her ex-husband, Darian Rawson.
In his court petition, Darian Rawson alleged that Kerri Rawson had threatened him and their children with death and repeatedly warned that the family would be killed. According to the claims, on January 5, 2025, at the Altamonte Springs police station, Kerri Rawson told her ex-husband that she had psychic powers and that through these abilities she knew the children would be killed that morning.
The ex-husband stated that Kerri later called 911, reporting gunshots, numerous assailants in an apartment complex, and three people killed. When police arrived at the scene, they found the family safe. The police report noted that Kerri Rawson was located at Orlando International Airport and was voluntarily hospitalized.
Following the incident, Rawson was taken into custody under Florida's Baker Act and underwent a mental health evaluation. The police report described Rawson as 'a person known to give false and fabricated statements about events that did not actually occur due to mental health issues.'
Court-imposed restrictions
The court temporarily granted custody of the two children to their father, Darian Rawson. Kerri Rawson is only allowed to communicate with the children electronically and is prohibited from approaching their homes and schools. Additionally, her contact with the family pets was also restricted.
In a subsequent court filing, Darian Rawson alleged that Kerri Rawson had repeatedly violated the no-contact order. A representative for Kerri Rawson has not yet commented on the matter.
Father is a serial killer who murdered 10 people
Kerri Rawson's father, Dennis Rader, is a serial killer who murdered 10 people in Wichita, Kansas, between 1974 and 1991, calling himself 'BTK' (Bind, Torture, Kill). Arrested in 2005, Rader confessed to his crimes and was sentenced to 10 consecutive life sentences.
After her father's arrest, Kerri Rawson became an advocate for victims of violence. Her 2019 memoir, 'A Serial Killer's Daughter,' became a bestseller, and she gained public recognition through appearances in documentaries and television programs discussing her father's crimes and her own experiences.
