For the first time in ten years, two death sentences were carried out in a single day in the U.S. state of Florida. According to a statement from the Florida Governor's Office and the Department of Corrections, the death sentences of 68-year-old former police officer James Aren Duckett and 80-year-old Dominic Anthony Occhicone were executed.

The first execution took place for Duckett at 1:19 p.m. local time. Duckett had been sentenced to death in 1987 for the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl. The second execution was carried out for Occhicone at 6:13 p.m. Convicted in 1986 of killing the parents of his former girlfriend, Occhicone was recorded as the oldest inmate executed in Florida history.

The number of executions carried out in Florida so far this year has reached 12. This number accounts for more than half of the total executions in the United States. With executions carried out under the direction of Governor Ron DeSantis, whose term will end in January, Florida is the state that carries out the most death sentences in the country.
The U.S. Supreme Court rejected the final appeals of both inmates to halt their executions. The last time two death sentences were carried out in a single day in Florida was in 1964. Nationwide, this last occurred in 2017 in the state of Arkansas.
