Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced C$100 million in new international assistance for Palestinians while attending the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Carney said C$80 million of the package would be directed toward humanitarian assistance to help address urgent needs facing Palestinians.
The remaining C$20 million will support peace and security capacity-building efforts, as Canada continues its international assistance for Palestinians.
The funding is expected to support humanitarian efforts for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
C$80 million allocated for humanitarian assistance
The majority of the newly announced package will go toward humanitarian assistance aimed at addressing the severe conditions facing civilians affected by the conflict.
Carney’s announcement came as the situation in Gaza, Palestinian statehood and efforts toward a two-state solution remained prominent issues on the diplomatic agenda during the UN General Assembly in New York.
