Former Navy intelligence officer and Human Events senior editor Jack Posobiec made a statement to reporters after the five-day hearing of the assassination case against Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Posobiec called for the death penalty to be applied to the convicted assassins.
Posobiec, who said, 'The death penalty should be sought for every assassin. Assassins are a cancer on society,' described the evidence presented by prosecutors against defendant Tyler Robinson as 'an avalanche.'
Evidence presented at the hearing
During the hearing, a video statement was played in which Robinson's ex-girlfriend and roommate Lance Twiggs recounted that the defendant had made multiple confessions. Samples matching Robinson's DNA were found on the murder weapon and ammunition discovered in the woods near the crime scene.
Tool mark analysis revealed that the drilled bullet casings seized at the defendant's home were processed with the same Dremel tool as the casings at the crime scene. Campus security cameras recorded a gray Dodge Challenger, said to belong to Robinson, and a suspect who walked the same route twice in different clothes, allegedly concealing a rifle in his pant leg.
The defendant allegedly contacted Turning Point USA members before the attack and a police officer afterward. Posobiec compared this evidence to the Bryan Kohberger case, in which four people were killed, and said, 'Compare the minimal evidence there to the avalanche here.'
Political assassination cases in the US
Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, during an event at Utah Valley University. This case, along with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York, is seen as one of the two major political assassination cases in the country.
The suspect in Thompson's assassination, Luigi Mangione, escaped the threat of the death penalty because federal prosecutors could not use the assassination as an aggravating factor under existing laws. Tyler Robinson has not yet testified, and a decision on whether the case will proceed to trial will be announced on September 1.
