Colombian rapper Chelo Hop stomps on Israeli flag at Bogotá hip-hop festival
Colombian rapper Chelo Hop stepped on an Israeli flag during her set at Hip Hop al Parque, the free hip-hop festival held Oct. 24-25 in Bogotá's Simón Bolívar Park, according to video from the concert.
Video from the performance shows a man standing next to the rapper waving an Israeli flag on stage. The flag then ends up on the floor, and Chelo Hop stomps on it with both feet while she keeps performing.
According to the Bogotá city government's festival guide, Chelo Hop is the stage name of artist Karol Restrepo, who leads a Colombian rap project of the same name with music produced by AstrallBass. Her lyrics deal with social issues, including resistance and the experiences of women.
She was on this year's lineup as one of the local acts that won the city's arts grant in the MC category. The free festival, now in its 28th edition, is part of Bogotá's "al Parque" concert series.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro cut diplomatic ties with Israel in May 2024 over the war in Gaza.
